Habakkuk 3:17 – 19 “Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— 18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. 19 The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills.”

Where do you place your hope in times of trouble? Often times when our circumstances seem bleak, we tend to turn our attention towards whatever isn’t working out for us. We become so fixated on what’s wrong or how we can fix it, we forget to rely on and trust God for the solution.

Habakkuk was deeply troubled by the current state of his nation, so he complained to God. God assured him that things would change. Habakkuk trusted God’s words before he saw the proof. As God’s people we are to walk by faith and not by sight.

We know that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Though it may be hard when everything around us seems to be contrary to what we hope for, it is in those times that we discover what we really have been placing our faith in. If you look at the world around you and you are restless and dismayed despite the will and promises of God, my prayer is that like Habakkuk you learn to harken your ear heavenward, receive God’s promises and allow your sorrow to be replaced with joy. Place your confidence in a loving Father who never forsakes His children and trust that even though you may not see the manifestation of the good you hope for, your heart can rejoice in what is to come.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help us to hold on to your promises no matter what the world may look like around us. May we keep our hope in you and rejoice because you are faithful. In Jesus’ name, amen.

REMEMBER: When our circumstances seem bleak, rely on and trust God for the solution.
