SCRIPTURE: So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.  And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” John 8:28‭-‬29 NASB

Why did I do this again? A statement sometimes expressed with frustration, sorrow, or desire to give up. We may start wondering why we took the job, started a project, or majored in that subject when the going gets tough.

It’s as if God tapped me on the shoulder and said, “Yes! Ask yourself why? In answering my why I concluded that I forgot the vision, and I forgot that it was not about me. God calls us to accomplish his plans. Why am I doing this? Because God has called me to and truly, I desire to live for him. Where do we find the joy in doing what seems to not be pleasurable at the time? Well, in His presence. We can forget that God is leading us to a destination, and the journey equips us! Our character is being built. Our faith being stretched and grown. Our dependence is more on him! Let’s not discount the unforeseen blessings in a tough journey. The journey is not meant to push us away from God or his will but draw us closer to him.

Jesus is our example. Jesus didn’t do things out of His initiative. He spoke only what the Father wanted and lived a life of sacrifice and obedience. He did not give up or give in when the journey was tough. He did not seek glory from men but lived to please the Father in all things. Let us copy that!

May our asking of questions bring us back to the creator of it all. God has a plan, and we get to fulfill it. This is an honor. This is a privilege! Let’s remember our why and find joy in his presence when we are lacking.

PRAYER: Lord, I do not always know exactly why things are the way they are, but I do know you love me, and your plans are to prosper me. Give me direction and fill my heart with joy that overflows into my circumstances, so I give you praise through it all. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

REMEMBER: Ask him your questions, but stick around long enough in prayer to hear His response.
