All that glitters is not gold! We have heard it a million times and let it go in one ear and out the other like yeah whatever. Let’s pause on that statement today! We are all on social media, and it is so easy to get caught up in seeing all the glitter and gold then compare our lives. What glittered and shined yesterday is all of the sudden old news, and we want to be upgraded to the latest. Every generation goes through this to some extent! I remember struggling to hold on to my peace and drive my old Chevy. I remember my bumper barely holding on one day, and I just popped that bad boy back in. The car wasn’t glittering on the outside, but that car was a blessing! Never gave me too much trouble and always got me to my destination. However, people insisted that it was old and I needed to get something new.

I know at times God is calling us to better and more, but sometimes I feel contentment needs to be practiced. I see a Support group titled “recovering coveter” led by three, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Anyone else wants to sign up? My prayer is to teach me the Holy Spirit to enjoy where I am, help me to push forward for financial freedom, and give us all a heart to build your kingdom.

But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.  But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.

1 Timothy 6:6‭-‬11 NASB

We can get caught up trying to set up our lives to gain! Instead of training our minds to be content, we train our minds to work hard to catch up to what is painted to us as a success. Are we not content with all the clothes in our closet? All the shoes in our closet? All this stuff. It’s funny how COVID hasn’t let us flash many of it. Drive your car to where? Wear those heels to what party? Flex on who?

God is calling us to be Godly, but adding contentment makes things even sweeter. There are many people or things we may wish to look like or things we wish we had, but only God should we be trying to copy. The scripture warns us not to pursue worldly things as our focus. Not to spend our whole life trying to reach what the world and people say is luxury. Luxury is knowing God and serving him. None of these things matter at the end of the day.

Desiring wealth and things is not bad until it consumes you. If you’re scrolling and being discouraged or ungrateful, maybe try contentment. Contentment will keep you joyful and far away from being pierced by grief. Let’s enjoy what we have, give as God has graced us to give and love those around us!

What are your thoughts on contentment? I want to know!?!?!

I hope you find these words uplifting.
