SCRIPTURE: Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 1 Kings 19:2‭-‬3 ESV

Have you heard a dog bark so loud and aggressive that your flight or fight system was activated! Fear for being attacked makes you want to run, but later you find out that dog is actually a sweetheart! Maybe a little extra though!

While Jezabel was not a sweetheart, we do know that the gods she served had no power to do anything to her if she was not successful in killing Elijah. We also know that God would have protected Elijah as He had been doing. Honestly that threat was empty! The God that rained fire at Mount Carmel could easily take her on and win! Unfortunately, Elijah right after killing all of Baals false gods and being part of one awesome miracle feared her!

Reading this passage you want to ask, “Elijah, really? You don’t think God would have taken care of her? Why are you running? You just literally won the greatest show down ever” But we can ask ourselves the same thing! Why are you running? Maybe God is calling you to step out in faith. You have seen God faithful in the past, yet fear has you questioning God? Let’s not let fear run us off to a cave somewhere without purpose like Elijah. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12 ESV Let’s choose fight over flight! Stand your ground. Let’s not be bullied by fear! God is with us always!

PRAYER: Dear God, thank you for giving us a sound mind where fear doesn’t have to be our guidance! Thank you for being with me, but help me to live that faith out! This life I now live I do not want to live in fear, but in faith! In Jesus, name I pray!

REMEMBER: There is Grace for your humanity, but there is Faith for your humanity!
