The enemy will try to keep us in bondage all of our lives if we let him. Oh how he uses lies and fear to control our hearts and minds. The little thoughts in the back of our minds keep us from doing even the smallest things. We can become anxious about almost everything. Thoughts such as, do I sound intellectual in this environment? You are not knowledgeable enough! Contributing won’t really make a difference. Anything and everything the enemy has he will throw our way to keep us from progressing! Sometimes we don’t notice the subtle lies we easily accept and entertain on our own either. We need to spend more time reviewing our thoughts! Here are 5 lies I’ve identified.

Did God really say?

  • We know God has spoken to us, but instead of us pursuing what he wants us to do we begin to question if God actually said it. Satan plants this seed of doubt. He causes confusion and we lose direction. We become open to other options or opinions

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.” Genesis 3:1‭-‬3 ESV

This won’t kill you. This won’t harm you. You’ll only increase. You can be God in this situation. This will launch you forward.

  • Certain opportunities seem good but are not God’s will. The enemy desires to prevent us from living out the will of God for our lives. He will present options that God never intended for us to pursue. These options may seem to satisfy certain desires or elevate us. We may drift away from God and not see that we want to be equal to God and solve our solutions. We begin to believe this lie that we can do and be successful apart from God. As a result, we may chase different jobs, careers, and different roles to satisfy desires.

But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:4‭-‬6 ESV

You do not qualify. You are not adequate and therefore will not be successful.

  • There are so many examples of God just walking alongside and teaching those he calls into the service he chooses. God knows what he created us for and if we truly trust him, he will see to it that we become what he set us to become. He will teach us all things! What we believe are inadequacies and downfalls do not even affect anything God has for us to perform. They don’t even matter. What feelings of inadequacies linger quietly in your heart that keep you from stepping forward in faith? Moses grew so much in his lifetime and we can too. I am so excited about growing in Christ and seeing what I will become. “God does not call the qualified. He qualifies those He calls.” Our inadequacies do not dictate our success, God does! How can the mouth God created talk back to his creator and say it cannot work.
  • But Moses said to the Lord , “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord ? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” Exodus 4:10‭-‬13 ESV

I am all alone. I don’t have help

  • We have the greatest and most powerful support we will ever have and it is from God. Somehow even as we grow and see him move us forward in life we still believe we are alone to some extent. God is our present need of help and we do not always see that he is at work. The enemy wants us to believe that God isn’t working on our behalf. We believe we should work even harder and we depend on our strength. Help is always on time. God doesn’t delay, but always seeks to be glorified. He will always do things to reveal himself to us and others. We are so overwhelmingly loved by God and may we never forget.

Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:20 ESV

You have time. One more day of delay will not really change things

  • Such a lie. Delayed obedience is disobedience! A quote we hear all the time, yet nothing may change. We can literally say everything we need to accomplish and know that we are wrong in not starting. We believe this lie so much that we are numb to the truth. We can not delay utilizing our gifts. Someone in the body needs edification by you. Not the lead pastors, not the lead teachers, not them but you. We all have to contribute. We all have something God has placed on our hearts to do or say.

For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord , he has also rejected you from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:23 ESV.

Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:16‭-‬17 ESV
